Dance
Lindy hop is the authentic swing dance which came to prominence with the swing and jazz music of the late 1920’s. Lindy Hop is a social dance or partner dance but it’s rooted in the vernacular jazz dances of the “Charleston” and “Black Bottom”. The dance evolved over the years along with the jazz music of the era. The dance we know and enjoy today took shape in the Savoy Ballroom formerly located in Harlem, NY.
I began dancing the lindy hop or “swing” in 1998 while studying music education at Geogria Southern University. I went on to become one of the original founders of Swingcat Society, the first ever swing organization at the university. After teaching and learning the dance for several years in college I moved to Atlanta, Ga in 2003 to begin my career as a music educator. After some time away from the dance I returned to the floor in the summer of 2004 and begin learning, traveling, competing and performing the lindy hop and charleston. I dance regularly in Atlanta and the Southeast and I currently hold or have held memberships in various dance organizations and performance ensembles. These organizations include the Atlanta Jazz Dance Preservation Society, Atlanta Swing Era Dance Association, Down South Swing, and the Big George Savoy Bouncers.
Dancing is and will always be my hobby. As a dancer I hope to continue spreading the joy of lindy hop and the great music that inspires it. This website functions as a portal into my life as a jazz dancer. I hope in following my adventures as a lindy hopper you too will learn the joy this amazing dance.
Welcome to my world as a lindy hopper
“I started swing dancing in college in the fall of 1998 to get my mind off of my music studies. Little did I know it would literally change my life”
